Celebration The wake of maypole

The maypole wake is one of the richest cultural Venezuelan East. It has been passed down from generation to generation since colonial times, mixing with indigenous and African contributions.
It is the celebration in which the Catholic Church says the finding of the cross on which Jesus died in AD 324. However, Venezuela has evolved and has also turned into a wake, a ritual to promote good yields (by the start of the rainy season), and a way to ask the virgin protection during the year.
The day of the cross is on 3 May. However, in our country, this celebration takes place throughout the month in the East, Central and West of the country. The only states where no holds are Merida, Zulia and Tachira.

The conclusion comes from our ancestors, who upon arriving in May, the Santa Cruz adorned with flowers first year as an offering to obtain good results. In our country, continued this tradition of wearing the cross as a link with the land and rainfall. But over time, the celebration became synonym for celebration. Some people even call it "bailorio", rather than wake.

hese festivals are accompanied by various musical forms in the region such as sheds, semi-flat, Fuli, Malaga, romances and tones. Instruments used are: four, mandolin, guitar, drum square, maracas, accordion. Also share drinks and sweets. The music, prayers, food and other items vary according to region.
